Hi my name is Bradley Lancaster a Digital Designer & Website Developer based in Brisbane Australia.
I love travel, mountain climbing, backpacking, riding motorbikes, watching thrillers, action and comedy movies, photography (work in progress), so far i have been to 10 countries and have plans in 2018 for five more!
I love all things do with digital design, modern interactive programming and advanced web based animation.
It’s great getting paid to do the thing you love to do so i do feel blessed 🙂
Below are some of the things i have done and currently do in my career.
This work involves digital strategy, digital marketing, programmatic advertising, social media marketing, standard ads, dynamic data driven ads, rich media, video, advanced web animations and mobile advertising.
I work alongside a great team of digital maketers, brand managers, digital strategy, graphic designers, motion graphics artists and marketing who manage all of this. The team provide me with briefs for global, local or programmatic targeted advertising campaigns.
Creative concepts can be implemented using storyboarding designs or After Effects animated prototypes that can then be converted to code based animation and interactive digital media.
Digital advertising publishing platforms used are Flashtalking, Sizmek, Spotify, Facebook, Instagram, DoubleClick, AdSense and Scala for digital signage.
Learning lean coding practices and utilising modern frameworks to deliver projects on time and on budget is essential. SASS, Bootstrap, Foundation, Underscores, WordPress, CSS3 Animations, Advanced GSAP, SNAP.svg and ScrollMagic are tools I try to sharpen from week to week.
Each project is different but the key is to create the best user experience possible within the constraints of the project. Techniques include brainstorming, mood boarding, high fidelity wire-framing, pixel perfect user interface design, advanced interaction design or straight up coding in the web browser.
Each project will have different ways to get the best results. Understanding the process and following modern design patterns, using social media to keep up to date with trends and best practices, is essential to delivering kick ass layouts that work well across all types of devices.
Combining design principals and design tools with animation tools such as Adobe After Effects I can provide clients an exact replica of the project before any coding is required. Using animation programs for interaction design enables me to fine tune the user experience and perfect the timing and experiment with ideas in a quick manner.
When creating interaction design in After Effects I always use developer friendly velocity curves for animation. This means that the interaction design can be recreated using code and not dependent upon the animation program and traversed across applications.
I love to follow design and UI – UX trends, finding good fonts, images, mock-ups, textures, patterns, UI kits and design inspiration.
It is not acceptable these days to have sites that don’t work on mobile devices, content hierarchy is important in design and using a mobile first technique will ensure the right content is kept
I follow mobile first, graceful degradation and progressive enhancement. These are all fundamental techniques needed these days, it is always a balancing act but the results are well worth it.
I do my best to keep up to date with w3c recommendations, using feature detection and providing good fall-backs, polyfills for outdated browsers and devices.
This complex and evolving world of responsive design and development is always changing, I follow modern responsive technologies and techniques by staying active in the community and following industry leaders.
I have over 10 years commercial graphic design experience in signage & large format print design, working as the lead graphic designer and production manager in Signs & Graphics companies including privately owned agencies and SignARama.
Creating sign ready artwork for cut and print, i learnt advanced vector manipulation and design. I worked for many clients such as Nudie, Boost Juice, Strathfield Car Radio, V8 Supercars, Mustang Australia, Ferrari & Maserati, Barbeques Galore, Westfield, The Australian Government, City Councils and many more!
My modern day workflow now involves designing responsive websites, logo design, print design, digital publishing design, branding, user interface design, interaction design, icon design, responsive SVG design, social media promotional advertising, cover pages, prepping artwork for web and motion graphics.
I love design and all modern workflows used to create compelling sleek polished user interfaces and interactions.
There is nothing more rewarding than designing a 24m x 6m billboard then driving home and seeing in lights every day, or designing graphics for a V8 Supercar then wrapping the design and seeing it on TV going over 280klm per hour.
Making and seeing your hard work and skills in larger than life print and cut media is the best part of being a Sign and Large format print designer.
Being a graphic designer and production manager was a high pressure and demanding job. As the only lead graphic designer and printer I was responsible for managing up to 60 jobs at a time whilst keeping the printer running and the installation/manufacturing team pumping out work. Creating all the designs and handling walk in customers and answering phones.
Days go fast, stay focused or you will definitely make some big mistakes.
I was fortunate enough to work as a Technical Officer at Phoenix Foundry where i learnt Rhino 3D, Versaworks, Multicam and 3D scanning.
I learnt how to create 3D Models and then create split patterns for metal casting. Using Versaworks to create advanced tool paths to sculpt out various materials from the CAD designs.
Working in the foundry was fun, the process is old school mixed with advanced technology.
Since working at the Foundry i use Rhino 5 and Vray 2.0 for creating 3D Models and realistic renderings for product mock-ups and WEB GL.
I feel that having 3D modelling skills will have a great benefit in web design over the next few years, when mobile devices have more powerful hardware and browsers have more support. We can soon create fast 3D interactive websites that blow our minds.
